S.C.I.F.A: ARTS

We can start with a quote by Thomas Merton, 'Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.'

It isn’t what we do but merely who we are. The uniqueness of our perceptions and our lives can draw to attention the truth that no man is alike. Creativity beams within us and that is evident in our appreciation and understanding of art.

S.C.I.F.A Arts is a department under the Student Christian Interdenominational Fellowship Association. Headed by Purity Sichande , it embraces the various forms of art such as music, poetry, dance, painting, drawing and more with the objective of acquainting and growing students in their interest and knowledge of these forms of expression.

Art is their home ground under the vision of growing in a relationship with God. We were created to create by a creator who expresses his art in our everyday lives. A beautiful thing to reminisce.

It is a community that allows individuals to feel free in their stance of art. Who are you in your perception that character doesn’t show? The wholesomeness of being surrounded by creative minds similar to yours is the best place to break the ice with your relationship with art. The story of our expressions can be influenced by the seasons we're in, and that’s okay. We open up and grow through that in community, and in understanding the source of our passion.

Get to meet friendly faces like Miss Sichande herself who is an artist and the S.C.I.F.A Arts community that’s full of art you’d be mesmerized  by. I for one, was struck by the pieces and paintings I was blessed to see. There’s so much potential around and in us that we could put out, to use to color the dark sides of life.

I’ll leave you with a few of my favorite quotes and hope this entices you to interact with S.C.I.F.A Arts. They meet every Tuesday and Thursday.

‘Art is to console those who are broken by life’- Vincent Van Gogh

‘Art is standing with one hand extended into the universe and one hand extended into the world, and letting ourselves be a conduit for passing energy.’ - Albert Einstein

‘The world always seems brighter when you’ve just made something that wasn’t there before.’- Neil Gaiman.

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep” -Scott Adams

“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen” -Leonardo Da Vinci

“All art is a kind of confession, more or less oblique. All artists, if they are to survive, are forced, at last, to tell the whole story; to vomit the anguish up.” -James Baldwin.
