THE ZCAS SDA CAMPUS MINISTRIES
Religion has had a very
huge impact on mankind for hundreds and even thousands of years. Different religious groups and followings are
scattered all across the globe, each with their own set up and doctrine with
some even possessing subgroups, also known as denominations within themselves.
Today we are going to take a look at Christianity and as much as it would be interesting to go on a quest of discovery concerning the various subgroups and doctrines found in the Christian religion, our primary focus will be on The Seventh Day Adventist Church.
We will be taking a look at its various activities in its quest to spread the word of God, even on University campuses which might come as a surprise to some of us.
The ZCAS SDA Campus
fellowship is just one of many SDA groups present across various learning
institutions in a relentless attempt of the Denomination to reach out to as many
people as possible to spread the Christian Gospel.
One of ZCAS-M.I.T’s
members had an opportunity to seat down and have a talk with some of the
fellowship leaders for a brief interview. It concerned what the group was about
and the motivations behind having a physical presence on the ZCAS campus.
The interview went
rather well, with the leaders being openly co-operative and more than willing
to answer the questions asked.
They cited their
acknowledgment of a need of faith as one progressed in life and how the
fellowship was there to help with that. It was more than mere banter as the
leaders were very real over their personal walks with Christ, even able to recall moments in their life when their faith was challenged.
That and a few
lighthearted moments concerning how they became members of the SDA church as
well as any Stereotypes they regularly face as a result of that.
One other thing to take
note of was that they stated how they had little to no challenges with
conducting activities on campus and actually had good reception from the ZCAS
student population.
This was good due to
the fact that these interactions help foster a sense of community on campus, which is needed in an academic world where isolation can bring disadvantages
during the University experience in all sorts of ways and even in relation to
career prospects.
During their meetings, the members socialize
with one another as individuals, friends and most importantly, as a family, with
things such as bible studies and praise and worship being used as the catalyst
to help tend to the human need for social connection especially at this delicate
point in time of one’s youth.
The group has ranges of
activities that include weekly physical meetings and virtual interactions
through platforms such as WhatsApp as well as Facebook and Instagram pages that
they occasionally post upon.
All are welcome to
congregate with them regardless of denomination or doctrine as they grow both
in Body and in Spirit with support of one another as Brothers and Sisters in
Christ.
